The Fairfax County Park Authority has given permission to the County to demolish the old Lorton Nike Facility on Furnace Road, in order to build a middle school on this site. This comes despite the fact that the land next to the unimaginatively-named South County High School still appears to be largely empty.

I'll do my best to try and document the site (the most historic part of which I've marked on the map above, but do not have a picture of) before the destruction is complete.
